“Zombies?”
Dustin raised an eyebrow slightly, looking somewhat surprised. “I’ve only ever heard people mention those things. Never seen one myself. Are they really as powerful as the legends say?”
Zombies, these evil beings that exist outside of the Six Paths, were said to be immortal and indestructible, feeding on human blood and capable of absorbing the essence of the sun and moon.
Ancient texts recorded that certain powerful zombies could massacre entire cities and lay waste to land for thousands of miles.
“Zombies are the most sinister and evil of creatures. Their bodies are like copper and iron—impervious to blades and bullets. Eliminating them is extremely difficult. What’s most terrifying is the corpse poison they carry. If someone gets bitten or scratched, they’ll turn into a zombie themselves. Then it spreads—one turns to ten, ten turns to hundreds,” Margaret said solemnly.
Corpse poison spreads even faster than a plague.
A plague can still be controlled with medicine, but once corpse poison breaks out, there’s virtually no way to stop it.
The only solution is to destroy every infected person, completely eradicating the threat.
It was foreseeable—if they couldn’t stop the zombies from invading, Pucheng's destruction would only be a matter of time.
"The remnants of the Bone Sect are truly harmful. First it was the plague, then the red mist, and now zombies? It’s wave after wave—nonstop.” Dustin was starting to feel some real anger.
Though he had now broken through a cultivation realm and could handle far more, being toyed with repeatedly by the Bone Sect was infuriating.
Once he located their hiding spot, he would absolutely wipe them all out in one fell swoop.
“I’ve already deployed the army to block off all major routes, but I’m not confident they can hold against a mass zombie attack. If the military falls, the people of Pucheng will be completely defenseless. When that happens, the city will run red with blood,” Margaret said, visibly worried.
Corpse poison was highly infectious—if even the army became infected, things would spiral out of control.
“What do you need me to do?” Dustin asked directly.
It was obvious she had called him here for a reason.
“I need you to act—to stop the zombies’ advance. Ideally, I want you to eliminate them all,” Margaret said.
“How many zombies are in Pucheng?” Dustin asked.
“Over a thousand already—and spreading fast,” Margaret answered honestly.
“So many zombies, and they’re scattered in all directions. Even if I start killing, I might not be able to keep up with the speed at which they’re spreading.”
After a few seconds of thought, Dustin said, “Here’s what we do—have the army lead the civilians away, as far from the zombies as possible, to prevent further infections. Then select a few teams to herd all the zombies to one place. I’ll destroy them all at once. That’s faster, more efficient, and will minimize losses.”
“Great idea! I’ll have it arranged immediately!”
Margaret made a hand signal to summon her trusted aides and quickly issued the orders.
Just as Dustin had said, hunting zombies one by one was far too inefficient.
A concentrated extermination was the best approach.
“Given the Bone Sect’s style, I’d bet this zombie outbreak isn’t limited to Pucheng alone, right?” Dustin suddenly asked.
“Correct!”
Margaret nodded seriously. “The first outbreak was in Liyang City, then Lin City and Wugang City. Pucheng was the last. Compared to the others, Pucheng’s situation is actually one of the better ones. Liyang is the worst—several thousand people have already been infected with corpse poison.”
“Four cities facing zombie crises at once… The Bone Sect really is driving us to the brink,” Dustin narrowed his eyes, a deadly glint flashing in them.
“This is a grand blood sacrifice. They want to use the people of these four cities to summon their so-called Bone God,” Margaret said, brow tightly furrowed.
“If we resolve Pucheng’s crisis, we can’t just abandon the others. You need to send word to the three royal princes. Have them evacuate the people, get them out before the corpse poison spreads further. Then we’ll find a way to round up the zombies, and I’ll destroy them one by one,” Dustin said.
“Understood!” Margaret didn’t hesitate and immediately began contacting them.
This was a matter of life and death for the people of the cities. Everyone had to work together.
If the corpse poison was allowed to spread unchecked, it wouldn’t just be four cities that suffered—the entire Southern Frontier, even all of Dragonmarsh, would descend into chaos.
It was a disaster that could shake the very foundation of the nation.
When Margaret contacted the three royal princes, their reactions varied greatly.
Li Wenxing was decisive and immediately followed the plan—organizing his forces to evacuate civilians and isolate the zombies to prevent further transmission of the corpse poison.
He did this out of trust for Margaret, and because the plan made sense.
After all, he had no better solution. All he could do was follow instructions and place his hope in that peerless expert to eliminate the zombie scourge.
Compared to Li Wenxing’s compliance, Li Guanglong was far more arrogant and willful.
In his eyes, there was nothing brute force couldn’t solve. A few zombies? He didn’t think they were even worth worrying about.
He had guns, cannons, tanks, and planes. He didn’t believe those zombies couldn’t be blasted to pieces.
Asking him to retreat with his army was, to him, an act of cowardice—something he looked down on entirely.
But soon enough, Li Guanglong would pay a heavy price for his arrogance. - Vivek
