The bullet didn’t hit the thug directly, but struck the ground by his feet, sending sparks flying.
Frightened out of his wits, he stumbled backward, rolling and crawling in panic.
The other thugs were also stunned by the sudden gunshot. They all halted, looking warily at Natasha, who was holding the gun, unsure whether to advance.
“Hubby, are you okay?!”
Natasha rushed forward, her gun still aimed nervously at the thugs.
Dustin was panting, leaning against the bridge railing. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and waved his hand. “I’m fine. Just a minor injury.”
Seeing his disheveled state, and how far his abilities were now from the sharp, overwhelming skill he once had, Natasha’s suspicion grew. She couldn’t help asking, “Hubby… didn’t you used to fight extremely well? Why are you so weak now?”
Dustin gave a helpless smile. At this point, there was no point hiding it anymore. He lowered his voice. “I lost all my cultivation. Right now, I’m no different from an ordinary person.”
“What?!” Natasha’s beautiful eyes widened. “How could that happen?!”
“It’s a long story. I’ll explain later.” Dustin shook his head.
Although Natasha’s heart was full of doubt and worry, she knew this was not the time to question him.
She gritted her teeth, eyes firm. “Alright! Then I’ll get you out of here!”
At that moment, the crowd parted, and Shuo Spanner and Hui Spanner, who had been watching coldly from the side, walked over.
Shuo Spanner looked at the gun-wielding Natasha without a trace of fear, amusement playing on his lips.
“Natasha, put the gun down and come with me. Maybe I’ll consider sparing this pretty boy of yours. Otherwise, if you insist on resisting… he dies today.”
Natasha’s expression turned icy. “Shuo Spanner! Don’t do anything stupid! I’m warning you, this is someone you can’t afford to provoke!”
“Can’t afford to provoke?” Shuo Spanner laughed as if he’d heard the biggest joke in the world.
“What nonsense. In Dragon Nation, is there anyone our royal Spanner family can’t provoke? Don’t try to scare me. Maybe I can’t touch you, Miss Harmon, but this kid? He’s dead tonight.”
He paused, his eyes sweeping over Natasha’s body with greed as he licked his lips.
“Of course, I could spare him… if you sleep with me tonight. Then I’ll pretend this never happened. How about it?”
“In your dreams!” Natasha roared, trembling with anger.
Shuo Spanner’s face darkened. “Then there's no helping it!”
He waved his hand sharply and shouted to the hesitant thugs:
“Get them! Whoever cripples that kid gets a million!”
Money talks. The thugs’ eyes turned vicious again as they advanced with sticks and blades.
Natasha tightened her grip on the gun and fired a warning shot into the sky.
Bang!
“Let’s see who dares come closer!”
The gunshot stunned the crowd again.
But Shuo Spanner only sneered.
“She has one gun. How many bullets? We have dozens of men. Afraid of one gun? Move! Whoever takes him down first gets double!”
The thugs exchanged glances. Greed crushed fear—they roared and charged.
Natasha’s face turned pale. Her hand trembled—who should she shoot first?
Dustin grasped her hand tightly and glanced at the raging black river below. His eyes hardened.
If they were truly cornered…
They could only risk jumping into the river and hope for a sliver of life.
Just then—
A sharp, dense wave of police sirens erupted from all directions.
The sound surrounded the entire bridge.
Moments later, a loud buzzing filled the sky as a police helicopter appeared overhead, its searchlight blasting down like daylight.
From both ends of the overpass, dozens of patrol cars with flashing red-blue lights roared in, instantly surrounding Shuo Spanner’s convoy and all the thugs.
Doors opened—countless armed officers rushed out with shields and weapons, aiming their guns at the thugs.
“Drop your weapons! Hands on your head! Squat down!”
The commanding voice boomed through the loudspeakers.
The thugs froze.
Facing a forest of gun barrels, all their earlier ferocity evaporated. Pale-faced, they dropped their sticks and knives with clattering sounds and knelt down, hands over their heads.
Natasha let out a long breath, her body finally relaxing as she leaned against the car. “We made it in time.”
Dustin also sighed inwardly. Without his cultivation, he nearly died to these small-time thugs.
Looks like he had to be more cautious from now on… or risk dying in a ditch.
Shuo Spanner and Hui Spanner stared at the scene, their expressions souring.
But there was no fear—only irritation that their fun had been ruined.
Hui Spanner straightened his suit and snorted.
With the influence of their royal Spanner clan, even if they were taken in, it would just be a formality. They’d be released the same day without a scratch.
Still… this was humiliating.
Hui Spanner glanced at the officers securing the scene, then at Dustin and Natasha standing together.
His eyes turned darker and more venomous.
